There are four major organizations which sponsor agility trials in the United States:
Each of them has a set of rules and regulations which are slightly different from
one another. If you plan to compete in agility, you need to be very familiar with the
rules and regulations of the organization sponsoring the match or trial you will be
participating in. The obstacles used at See Spot Sit, LLC, try whenever possible to
meet the regulations of both USDAA and AKC; where it is not possible to meet the
regulations of both organizations the AKC rules are followed (in particular, 42"
contact zones are used on all contact obstacles). No crossover is used. We will
try to incorporate more UKC obstacles in the future.
Jump heights are the most significant difference. You need to know your jump
heights and any exceptions made for your breed (most of the organizations have
exceptions for short-legged-long-backed breeds, for barrel-chested breeds, and for
giant breeds). Your dog will also need to be officially measured before
you enter any trials - check the regulations as to where and when this can be done.
The tables below are current to regulations as of Jan. 2004, but always check with
the sponsoring organization for the most current rules.
