Jennifer Lund, Ph.D., CPDT

Jennifer has been teaching and training dogs and people since 1990. She started with competitive obedience and agility with her own dogs, and then began teaching classes with a local obedience club. She focused on puppy and household obedience training, and started a drop-in puppy kindergarten class that was so successful it eventually had to be split into 3 sessions. She created and taught a public education seminar entitled "So You Want to Get a Puppy..." designed to help people make educated choices about dog ownership. In 1996, Jennifer received the Instructor of the Year award from the Ann Arbor Dog Training Club.

While in graduate school, Jennifer raised several puppies for Leader Dogs for the Blind in Rochester, MI. From 1997-2002, she taught weekly puppy socialization classes for Guiding Eyes for the Blind in Yorktown Heights, NY and acted as a coordinator for the foster families raising puppies in Westchester County, NY. In this role, Jennifer helped dozens of families raise happy, well-socialized, well-mannered pups who went on to become guide dogs. She has also raised numerous German Shepherd puppies for Guiding Eyes and for the Connecticut State Police. Jennifer has also been teaching privately and helping people address dog behavior problems for many years.

Currently, Jennifer teaches 8-10 group classes per week in puppy socialization, basic obedience and manners, and agility. She also counsels clients with dog behavior problems and supervises two apprentice trainers. Jennifer is a frequent speaker at free community educational events sponsored by Your Dog's Friend, addressing such topics as puppy/dog selection, integrating a dog into your household, common behavior problems, aggression, and fear and anxiety. Jennifer is also an instructor in the Canine Training and Management Program at Kutztown University. Jennifer is an approved Canine Good Citizen evaluator for the American Kennel Club, offers CGC preparation in her classes, and administers the CGC test annually for the Montgomery County Humane Society at their Paws in the Park pet walk and fundraiser. Jennifer maintains professional membership in the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT). She has received the designation of Certified Pet Dog Trainer from the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers. See the CCPDT website for more information on the requirements for certification.

When she is not training dogs, Jennifer is a research scientist, formerly with IBM. Currently she is on leave while starting a family, working on several book projects, raising some more guide dog puppies, and developing her business. She has two children, two dogs of her own, a cat, a rabbit, a mouse, and some fish. And a very tolerant husband.
