From time to time, we offer specialty classes in particular dog activities such as nosework, therapy, agility, competitive obedience, and so on.
See Spot Sniff!
Searching for a new game to play with your dog? Join us for a scent-illating 6 week course. Nose games are a fun way to learn to engage your dog's sense of smell, cultivate
natural hunting instincts, strengthen the human-canine bond, and provide constructive mental and physical stimulation for your dog. The first class (level 1) is an orientation WITHOUT
dogs, for instruction and demonstration. You will be able to practice the skills learned at home that week. In subsequent classes, dogs will take turns working individually while dogs who are not working will be crated away from the search area so as not to interfere with the working dog. Therefore, dogs need to be able to stay quietly in a car or crate to participate in this class. Each week, you will need to bring your dog's crate and a lot of the stinkiest food or treats you can think of, and possibly a toy. All breeds will have a smell of a good time!
Pre-requisite: Able to stay calmly in a car or crate!
Therapy Dog
This course introduces students to basic skills (both obedience and temperament) required by most typical therapy dog organizations. Dogs will work on greeting behaviors, reactions to different distractions (such as "scary" people, medical equipment, noises), handling and gentling exercise, tricks to entertain, and of course obedience and control. Dogs are not certified for work with any particular therapy organization in this class, although we will take a practice test and tell you how to pursue certification if desired.
Pre-requisite: completion of Level 2 skills; loves people, friendly
toward other dogs.
